The Chorus of Welsh National Opera
The Chorus of Welsh National Opera has forty members and became professional in 1968. Since then it has become internationally recognised as a world-class ensemble by both critics and audiences. Recent productions including Khovanschina, The Sacrifice and Aida have garnered huge praise for the Chorus.
Over the last twenty years, the Chorus has performed a wide range of operas from the traditional repertoire such as Handel, Mozart, Verdi, Wagner and Puccini, and also from more contemporary composers such as Janacek Tippett and James MacMillan. They have also undertaken small-scale tours of rural venues throughout Wales and South West England and performed at international festivals including the BBC Proms and the Faenol Festival.
Members of the Chorus also have immense experience of working with children, adults and elderly people through WNO’s work with schools and community groups. Most members of the Chorus have active concert and operatic solo careers. The Chorus has performed in many major state events, including singing for HM The Queen as she opened the new Welsh Assembly.
