Haydn’s cheerful F major quartet contrasts with Shostakovich’s brooding 8th quartet concluding with another towering masterpiece of the Chamber music repertoire - Schubert’s Death and the Maiden.

Brodowski Quartet
First Prize Winners of the 2008 Royal Overseas League Competition, the Brodowski Quartet are ‘the new kids on the London scene’, The Times. The quartet members, originating from Germany, Wales, Scotland and England are currently based in London. They are ‘Associate Artists’ at the Anvil Concert Hall in Basingstoke and newly appointed ‘Artists in Association’ at Bristol University and Warwick School. The quartet is excited to be ‘String Quartet in Residence’ for the Young Composer of Dyfed Competition 2011/12. Previously they were recipients of the Richard Carne Fellowship for Chamber Ensembles at Trinity College of Music, where they previously held the Bulldog Scholarship for String Quartet.
The Quartet won the Second Prize at the 2009 ‘Gaetano Zinetti’ International Chamber Music Competition in Italy, also winning the Special Award of ‘Artists in Residence’ for 2011. In 2008 they were selected as Park Lane Group Young Artists, giving a critically acclaimed recital at the Purcell Room in London, their playing being described as ‘open and honest’, The Times. In 2007 they were winners of the Val Tidone International Chamber Music Competition in Italy and were also prize winners in the Charles Hennen International Chamber Music Competition in the Netherlands broadcast on Radio 4 Netherlands.
Since formation they have enjoyed performing in some of the foremost venues in the UK such as the Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Barbican Hall, Purcell Room, the Edinburgh Festival, Dartington International Summer School and Brighton Festival, where they won the latest7 magazine award for ‘Best Classical Music Act 2009’. They have performed extensively throughout Europe, notably in the Kronberg Festival, Orlando Festival, ‘Estate Musicale a Palazzo’ Mantova, Zinetti Competition International Festival, Verona and held a residency in Anghiari, Italy. The Quartet has performed live on BBC Radio3’s In Tune programme.
The Quartet is dedicated to educational work, giving concerts in association with Anvil Arts The Philharmonia, and the Cavatina Chamber Music Trust whose invaluable work increases awareness of Chamber Music amongst young people.
The quartet are delighted to be selected artists for the Making Music Concert Promoters’ Network for the 2010-11 season.
