Stimmung is one of the great iconic masterpieces of the last 50 years. Lasting some 70 minutes, it is a musical mediation for six solo singers. In it, time is suspended and the music hovers magically above the audience, creating the impression of a purification rite or initiation ceremony.
Stockhausen died last December and would have been 80 this year. Lower Machen Festival is presenting the first Welsh performance of Stimmung to mark the 40th anniversary of its first performance. If you know Stimmung you will want to be present. If you do not, then please come. It might change your life.
Stimmung lasts around 70 minutes and is preceded by a talk:
Space and structure, sex and ceremony
Peter Owens and Intimate Voices give a 30-minute talk (with live musical examples) on Stockhausen's Stimmung. There will be an interval before the performance itself.
