Few other young pianists have identified themselves so closely with the great Viennese classics from Haydn to Schubert, as Paul Lewis. In recent years he has undertaken a critically-acclaimed Schubert recital and, more recently, a cycle of the complete Sonatas of Beethoven. The cycle reaches its conclusion this year with performances of the last three Sonatas. These three revelatory sonatas, innovatory and of profound depth are one of the keystones of the piano repertoire – it should be fascinating to hear what Paul Lewis does with them.
