Saturday 24 June 7.30pm
Ex Cathedra Choir and Continuo
Jeffrey Skidmore (director)

Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre

Venetian Vespers

Our main festival venue moves to the new Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre in Newport for a rare visit to South Wales by Ex Cathedra, one of the UK 's finest choirs, critically acclaimed for its performances of early music.

Under its founder Jeffrey Skidmore, Ex Cathedra’s trailblazing performances and critically acclaimed recordings have put it at the forefront of early music. This concert sweeps us back to seventeenth century Venice and the glorious sounds first heard at St Mark’s Basilica. The programme includes the Cinque Laudate psalms by Grandi, Cavalli and Rovetta and music by Gabrieli and Monteverdi - all breathtaking examples of Italian polyphonic music.

“Ex Cathedra is a fantastic choir who know who they are and sing with pride and polish and flair.” Ian Burnside, BBC Radio 3

Tickets £12.50 & £10.50 (Concessions)

NB Tickets for this concert only are available from the Riverfront directly on 01633 656757
