Daytime concerts
This year the Festival will be presenting four short
concerts during the day – a great opportunity for those of you who
find it difficult to get out in the evenings to enjoy a taste of the Festival
spirit.

Mavron String Quartet
The Cardiff-based Mavron Quartet have
become one of Wales’ most hotly-tipped chamber groups in the last
couple of years. They make their first visit to the Lower Machen Festival
with music by Mendelssohn and other light favourites.
Wednesday 21 June, 11.30am
Ystrad Mynach Library
Haberfield-Jones Guitar Duo
Simple, strong and direct - virtuosic
arrangements of Jazz classics and new music from two of South Wales' finest
guitar players.
Thursday 22 June, 11.30am
White Rose Resource
Centre, New Tredegar
Stephen Bingham (violin)
A colourful programme of music from Bach
to Piazzolla, folk tunes from Hungary and Norway and Lost In Hollywood
– an arrangement of a song by 70s rock group Rainbow, given on acoustic
and electric violins by the leader of the Lower Machen Festival’s
resident Bingham Quartet.
The concerts on 20, 21 & 22 June are promoted in
partnership with Caerphilly County Borough Council's Music and Arts and
Library Services

Grace Williams Centenary Concert
Catherine Handley (flute), Sylvia Strand (soprano),
Kathryn Thomas (harp), Taina Niemela (piano) & Philip Heyman (viola).
A concert to celebrate the birth of Welsh composer Grace
Williams, born one hundred years ago in 1906. The concert includes the
Songs of Sleep, Flute Sonatina, Siencyn’s Song
and works for piano and harp.
