Bingham String Quartet
Evgenia Startseva (piano)
St Michael’s Church, Lower Machen
| Haydn | String Quartet in D major, Op.33, No.6 (14’) |
| Shostakovich | Piano Quintet in G minor, Op. 57 (35’) |
| Elgar | String Quartet in E minor (30’) |
Join the Festival’s Quartet-in-residence, the Bingham Quartet for a birthday – Shostakovich’s 100th. In his powerful and dramatic Piano Quintet they are joined by Kazakhstan-born Evgenia Startseva, whose performances at last year’s Festival caused a sensation. Also on the programme is one of Haydn’s wittiest quartets and Elgar’s only string quartet – written in the dying days of the First World War, it is a powerful lament for the passing of worlds.
“Evgenia is a very sensitive, talented and powerful musician, whose playing strives for the greatest meaning and emotion.” Maxim Vengerov
Tickets £9.50 & £7.50 (Concessions)
This concert is sponsored by Mrs Elizabeth Phillips in memory of her husband, David, a true supporter of the Festival.
