Thursday 23 June 8pm
Ashley Wass (Piano)

St. Michael’s Church, Lower Machen

One of the rising stars of his generation, Ashley Wass makes his first visit to Lower Machen with a programme of classical and romantic piano music together with Tippett’s short, dramatic and highly charged Second Piano Sonata, given to mark the composer’s centenary.

Ashley Wass is only the second British pianist in 20 years to reach the finals of the Leeds Piano Competition (in 2000) and he was the first British pianist ever to win the top prize at the World Piano Competition in 1997. He is one of the BBC’s New Generations Artist and has given concertos with many orchestras in Britain and abroad including Sir Simon Rattle and the CBSO, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

“Make no mistake about it: this boy is special. What I love about his playing is its sincerity and tenderness. He doesn’t just caress the piano, he probes its soft depths with the utmost consideration.” THE INDEPENDENT
